"I live in a world built by someone I am no longer. This song is about loving her, the fearless and driven version of myself who existed before my brain injury, before my life unraveled, and realizing I cannot fully step into her life again. I wrote it in French instead of English, which allowed me to take one step away from my own reality and speak from a comforting distance in a nostalgic voice I haven’t used in a long long time. The song fixates on an internal voice that feels both comforting and unsettling. Its repetition is not stylistic minimalism, but the sound of a mind looping after trauma. This is not a song about recovery. It is about surviving inside the aftermath in awe of the version of you that existed before. It’s about longing and obsession, an internal fixation" - Tobey Kai

Twinkling her way back into our hearts
After a life-altering accident that left Calgarian musician Tobey Kai with a severe brain injury, many thought her dreams of becoming a musician would have been shattered. She struggled to talk, walk, and sing for a long time, but Tobey has fought her way back. Through heartbreak, despair, battling physical pain, and emotional whiplash, she transformed her recovery once again into art.
Known for her heartfelt and philanthropic songs like "Who are you," (inspired by her late grandfather's dementia) and "Time," (a tribute to the families who've lost their loved ones in the line of duty), Tobey released another single in French this time titled "Fille Cool".

"
"J’ai écrit ma première chanson en français. Un peu nerveuse, ça faisait longtemps que je n’avais pas vraiment replongé dans la langue. Mais le français a toujours fait partie de moi, de mon identité canadienne. Fière d’ajouter cette pièce à mon répertoire." - Tobey Kai
